What is a Breast Lift?
Breast lift, also called mastopexy, is an elective cosmetic surgery designed to enhance or change the shape of a person’s breasts. Breast lift in Syracuse NY may be performed alone or in conjunction with placement of breast implants or breast reduction.
Breast Lift Before & After
Is breast lift right for you?
Candidates for breast lift surgery are well-adjusted adults who are happy with the size of their breasts, but want to improve firmness and shape. Women often experience sagging breasts as they get older, after losing a large amount of weight or after breastfeeding. Discuss with your surgeon your expectations and concerns.
What is involved with breast lift surgery?
There are two types of Syracuse breast lift procedures done under general anesthesia: full and modified. Full breast lift involves an anchor or inverted T-shaped incision around the areola and toward the base of the breast. After making the incision, excess skin is removed, the breast is elevated, and often the size of the areola is reduced. This traditional technique consistently produces the desired shape and position of the breast on the chest wall.
Modified breast lifts use fewer incisions and were designed to produce intended results with less scarring. This type of modified surgery is often paired with breast augmentation. This type of breast lift may involve a donut-, lollipop-, or crescent-shaped incision with removal of tissue around the areola and raises the nipple and areola on the chest wall.

What are the risks involved in breast lift?
As with any cosmetic surgery, risks can include bleeding, infection, unsightly scarring, changes in sensation, and shape irregularities. Many surgeons can drastically reduce these risks. Ensure the doctor you choose is board-certified and willing to listen to your expectations and concerns.
How do I find a breast lift surgeon in Syracuse NY?
Look in your local area for plastic surgeons that are board-certified and have at least 5 years of experience in this type of procedure. Ensure your surgeon is a doctor that you feel comfortable discussing your concerns with and is someone you trust. It is extremely important to check that your surgeon is board-certified in this particular procedure with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
What are alternatives to breast lift surgery?
Many bras and bathing suits have been designed to enhance the shape of breasts. These interventions obviously only work when worn and don’t have long-lasting effects. Exercise and increase in chest muscle tone may also help to improve breast elasticity and shape.
